Sunday Reflection (April 26, 2020)
In the Lord’s Supper we “break bread” and recognize the suffering Christ (Luke 24:13-35). We find grace and forgiveness in its sacramental grace and it brings to remembrance that Christ does not come to us with power, force, and vengeance; rather, Christ comes to us as the suffering Christ offering forgiveness and hope (Preaching Peace). The Holy Spirit forms Christ within you and among us so that others recognize Christ within you and among us.
I do not mean to indicate that we are perfect but that being a Christian makes a difference in the way we live our life, especially in our dealings with others and how we treat others. Following Christ is not about using force to coerce and exact vengeance; rather, it is about the extension of love, grace, kindness, and forgiveness. I do look forward to the time we can break bread together and until then, the Holy Spirit forming Christ within us and among us.
