Prayer for the Week (May 17-May 23)

Let us pray in hope that the Holy Spirit be poured out upon us: Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son has promised not to leave us as orphans. Give us the Holy Spirit of Truth to be with us and to live among us. May the Holy Spirit kindle in us the love of Jesus, so that we make the Good News of his love visible and tangible to all. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Sunday Reflection (May 17, 2020)

May our witness of the loving and kind God elicit the spiritual curiosity of those interested in knowing about the loving and compassionate God revealed in Jesus Christ (1 Peter 3:15-18). This revelation also brings judgment against us in that it bears witness to the evil and wrong we do to each other. Although our world is full of despair brought about by hatred, malice, and ruthlessness, and Kovid-19, we hope in God’s plan to bring all creation into the orbit of God’s love and that we have a part in that plan.

We have hope because God works in our lives through the Holy Spirit to lead us in the way of Christ. May we bear witness of our hope in Christ with confidence, humility, and respect. May we build a foundation for a society that reflects the value of human dignity for everyone because everyone is created in God’s Image.

Prayer for the Week (May 10-May 16)

Let us pray to our living God that in Jesus he show us the road of life: Father, you have sent us Jesus to be our way to you, and through the Holy Spirit, Jesus walks with us on the road to you. Give us the food we need for the journey, the bread of life, Jesus himself, until we reach that eternal home. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Sunday Reflection (May 10, 2020)

Knowing about the truth is not the same as living a life of truth.  Knowing about the life of Jesus Christ is not the same as living a life patterned upon the truth revealed in Christ Jesus.  If we believe that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life then our way of life will increasingly correspond to the truth and life of Jesus Christ (John 14:1-7).

May our following Christ not lead us to spiritual arrogance to beat non-Christians into submission.  Rather, may we point others to Christ by the way we live our lives and the way we treat others.  Jesus, the way, the truth, and the life:  May our lives as his followers reflect his truth and life.
